La Piana Associates conducts facilitated self-assessment for individual foundation grantees or clusters of grantees to help them assess the capacity of their organizational infrastructure. We developed the LIFE Cycle Self-Assessment Tool© (LIFE = Look, Involve, Find, Enhance) to help nonprofits identify organizational development needs. All key areas of organizational capacity are covered in the 100-question instrument.

Skilled facilitation is an integral component of this self-assessment methodology. Through an interactive and highly informative process, participants reach consensus regarding the top priority areas for the organization to focus on in building its internal capacity.

Foundations may offer this program to individual grantees or to a particular subset of grantees, such as those in a specific sub-sector or funding initiative.
