Meet Humberto,

one of our Senior Consultants.

 

Humberto Camarena (he/him/él) is an idealistic and creative thinker who is committed to social justice and driven by the intellectual challenge of navigating change and opportunity. His work is firmly rooted in an intersectional and inclusive approach that responds to the rights of racialized minorities, women, people with disabilities, the LGBTQIA+ community, and other historically marginalized groups. He has over 15 years of nonprofit experience, including direct service and advocacy work in the areas of immigration, homelessness, mental health, education, and youth empowerment. Humberto has worked with organizations based in the US and internationally, with firsthand experience living and working in Chile, China, Dominica, and Mexico. He is the co-author of the book Innovation from Within: Redefining How Nonprofits Solve Problems.

Humberto brings a thoughtful, analytical, and collaborative lens to his work, and weaves in inclusive design principles to create effective and equitable solutions. Previously, Humberto worked as the Assistant Director of the Center for Social Innovation at Boston College and the Head of Extension and Continuing Education for the School of Social Work at Pontificia Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile. His work as an academic centered on building the innovation capacity of future leaders to tackle emerging social issues.

Outside of Work

Creative sparks fly during Humberto’s free time. Whether he is repurposing found objects, fiddling with a craft, or exploring the great outdoors, Humberto always has a new adventure to embark on. He is passionate about finding creative outlets to explore his ever-evolving hobbies, and loves the joy of learning and discovery.
