In 2017, Race Forward and Center for Social Inclusion began merger discussions. As part of this work, La Piana Consulting facilitated a series of conversations with a subset of board and staff that helped to identify the unique value proposition of a merged entity, assess programmatic priorities, and restructure the governing board.
Outcome & Results
Both organizations were financially healthy prior to merging which the financial due diligence process confirmed. With its parent-subsidiary structure, Race Forward and CSI have been able to retain some philanthropic partnerships while expanding and deepening programmatic work across the country through ColorLines, the Governmental Alliance for Racial Equity (GARE), and other initiatives.
