David La Piana Speaks at Launch of Propellus
On June 20, 2013, Volunteer Calgary announced its rebranding as Propellus during its Annual General Meeting. The reinvention reflects a broadening of services resulting from Volunteer Calgary’s acquisition of nonprofit management services organization Centrepoint in 2011. The Calgary Foundation helped to support this rebranding and roll-out.
Propellus invited David La Piana to speak at the launch event, and has posted video clips on its YouTube channel, including excerpts from David’s keynote remarks on nonprofit strategy, change management, and capacity building.
On the following day, June 21, Propellus and the rest of Southern Alberta’s nonprofit community was tested by unprecedented flooding when heavy rainfall breached the Bow and Elbow rivers, inundating downtown Calgary and surrounding areas. As many as 100,000 residents were displaced during the crisis, but the community demonstrated resilience and strength in recovery. Propellus has since joined with the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations to co-sponsor surveys to assess the immediate and longer-term impact of the flooding on the area’s nonprofit sector.
